Herbal remedies should be part of a total health care program. We are complex human beings operating on physical, mental and spiritual levels. As such, when disease presents itself, we must look to our emotions, our thoughts and our diets for answers.
Are we under stress? Are negative thoughts influencing how we view the world? Do we have a strong spiritual connection with the universe? How are we feeding and nurturing our bodies? These questions must be addressed and then herbal remedies can be considered.
Nature in all of her wisdom has provided us with plants to help our bodies heal. Various estimates have identified well over one half million different plant species and subspecies throughout the world yet less than one percent have been identified and studied for medicinal properties. For the most part these plants are extremely safe, nutritious and work on an energetic level in our bodies to move towards improved health. Herbal remedies often cost much less and typically produce fewer side effects than prescription synthetic drugs or isolated chemicals available from pharmaceutical companies. As a result, more than eighty percent of the world's population utilizes herbal alternatives for their essential health care. Botanical, plant and phyto-medicines will continue to be studied to identify new or confirm old remedies from the past.
Herbal remedies are best suited as part of a protocol for chronic health problems while pharmaceutical drugs focused on one chemical can complicate the disease treatment process. Herbal remedies have several if not dozens of compounds which work together synergistically buffering their impacts. This not only offers diverse treatments but herbs also carry the expected nutritional values found in foods of vitamins and minerals. Each herb, plant or remedy varies in impact from a cumulative long term effect to an immediate short term effect but usually are much
slower in their impact than pharmaceutical drugs. Herbal remedies are great for healing, for example, cold and flue symptoms, bronchitis symptoms and many skin diseases. As with most alternatives, herbal remedies should be considered as a complement to medical mainstream care. Accurate diagnosis of the ailment, the cause of the problem and proper use are all important to healing and using healing herbs.
